Geneva Melvina Dana Ivie, 84, of Etna died Dec 9, 1977 of natural causes at the Good Samaritan Nursing Center in Idaho Falls.
Funeral services were conducted by Counselor Robert Roberts Dec 12 at the Etna LDS Ward Chapel. Burial took place at the Etna Cemetery.
She was born July 2, 1893 at Thayne, Wyo. to Roswell and Eunice Dana, the sixth child in a family of three boys and four girls. She attended school in Thayne and graduated from the eighth grade.
During her growing up years, she enjoyed sleigh rides, buggy rides, dances and socials with other friends. She enjoyed cooking and later cooked for five years at the Etna school.
On Sept. 10, 1913 she married Gilbert Ivie at Paris, Idaho. They lived in Bedford for nine years, a year in Grover, six years in Glen (now Freedom) and the rest of her life in Etna.
The couple had three sons and a daughter, although their family was much larger when others came at different times to live with them, including, Cliff, Rulon, Bill, Wallace and Frank Ivie, Dana Nelson, sterling Nelson and others.
Mrs Ivie and her husband were among the first to get the Swiss Cheese Factory in Freedom going. She enjoyed, with her family and friends, camping and fishing trips, as w ell as many service projects.
She knit items of clothing for soldiers during World War II and enjoyed embroidery, knitting, crocheting, and quilt-making. She assisted in LDS Church service as a midwife, caring for the sick, aiding with sewing and laying out the dead.
she served 30 years in the LDS Primary organization, was a Relief Society worker, Sunday School teacher and chorister and organist.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1961, and her son Rex and grandson Michael in 1971.
She is survived by her children Edwin Ivie of Idaho Falls; Wanda Thorpe of Roberts, Idaho and Jack Ivie of Etna; 20 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren and a sister Aurilla Dana Folkman of Ogden.
