DEATH OF TYLER BLAKE

Mr. Tyler Blake, one of Norman's oldest and most highly respected citizens died Friday, May 10th at 1:40 o'clock p. m. at his home in West Norman. The immediate cause of his death was euremia [sic] or blood poison. He had been in bad health for many months.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Corning at the Methodist church Sunday at 2:30 o'clock. The funeral was conducted under the auspices of the A. F. & A. M. The church was filled to overflowing. The body was laid to rest in the I. O. O. F. cemetery.

The deceased was born at Great Bend, Indiana, in 1935, and while a young man moved to Iowa where he enlisted in the 32nd Iowa volunteers and served until the end of the war between the states. From Iowa he moved to Southern Kansas and on April 22, 1889, came to Norman from Purcell on the first train, where he has continuously resided. He engaged in the drug business soon after the opening and remained in that business until about ten years ago.

By his first marriage four children were born. Three of them, Geo. Blake of Arcadia, Mrs. Bell Rogers of Wynoka and Mrs. Detta Norman of Greenriver, Wyoming, were present at the funeral. The fourth child died several years ago.

From the second marriage five daughters were born all of whom are living and with the exception of Mrs. Delbert Jenkins of the state of Washington, were present at the funeral. The daughters are: Mrs. Fred Reed, Mrs. R. F. Snapp, Mrs. Delbert Jenkins, Mrs. Jack Foster and Miss Adah Blake.


Register and Argus, Elkader, Iowa, 30 May 1912: Tyler Blake, brother of Alex Blake, and at one time in business in this city, passed away at his home in Norman, Oklahoma, May 10th at the advanced age of 76 years.
