A short prayer service for W. H. Kester, a former resident of Martinsville and a brother of H. B. Kester, who was brought here for burial, was held at the Presbyterian Church Saturday afternoon.
Following the prayer service, the local Masonic order took charge of the body.
Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery.
Mr. Kester died at his home in Beckley, W. Va., late Thursday morning following an illness of several weeks.
He was well known in Martinsville, having been in business here for 28 years.
He left in 1913 and was succeeded in business by his brother, H. B. Kester.
Mr. Kester was prominent in church, fraternal and business circles in Beckley and at the time of his death was serving as an elder in the Presbyterian Church there.
Funeral services were held in Beckley and the pastor of the church and two members accompanied the body to Martinsville.
He is survived by his wife, and one daughter, Miss Janie Kester, and two sons, W. Holt Kester and Howard A. Kester. Others surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Annie Brown, Mrs. Bertha Seville and Mrs. D. C. Fitzgerald of Roanoke, and Mrs. Isabelle Knighton of Columbus, Ohio; and two brothers, J. F. Kester of Roanoke and H. B. Kester of this city.
Mr. Kester was a charter member of Martinsville Knights of Pythias Lodge, a member of Piedmont Lodge No. 52 A. F. & A. M., Royal Arch Chapter No. 40, Knight Templars of Oak Hill, W. Va., and the Shrine at Charleston.
Among the out of town relatives and friends who attended the funeral were Mrs. W. H. Kester, Sr., Miss Janie Kester, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Kester Jr., of Beckley, W. Va., Howard Kester of New York, Wm. Holt of Roanoke, Mr. and Mrs. Armstead Holt of Lynchburg, Charles Morgan of Radford, Shankin White, Ref. Lynehaver and Miss Mary DeHart, a nurse from Beckley who attended Mr. Kester in his illness, and several others.
