Mr. Herron, 83, of Aiken, died Friday, October 31, 2008 at Carriage Hills Living Center.
A lifelong resident of Aiken, he was the son of the late John "Fred" and Nancy Elizabeth Higginbottom Herron. Mr. Herron spent his 83 years on earth being a devoted son, brother, husband of 60 years to his beloved Elizabeth, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, Uncle, friend, merchant and servant. Mr. Herron and his wife were the owners and operators of Herron's Grocery that was located on 711 Hampton Avenue, NE for over 60 years. Together along with family members they serviced the local community until the store burned down in l995.
He was a life long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and as a young man he served as a missionary. His faith defined who he was and how he conducted his life. His life was one of service to all with whom he came into contact and he was a friend, counselor, and support of many people. His passing was due to complications incident to age.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughters, Donna Elizabeth Macky, Mary Rebecca Herron, brothers, Dalton Collins Herron, Sr., Robert L. Herron and sister Dorothy H. Clark. He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Elizabeth Durland Herron, brothers, Owen F. (Carey) Herron, Heber T. Herron, both of Aiken; John Burts Herron, Joanna, SC; sisters, Myrtis H. (John) Johnson, Barbara H. Britt, Lottie H. (Mackie) Snipes, Mary Ann H. (Jack) Lynes, brother in law, Tarrel Clark, all of Aiken; grandchildren, Tammy Rebecca McGee, Mary Rena Freeman, Jennifer Ann Metz, and seven great grandchildren.
