AIKEN, SC – MYRTIS HERRON JOHNSON, 88, widow of John Sidney Johnson, died Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.

Mrs. Johnson was born April 5, 1926, to John Fredrick and Nancy Elizabeth Herron in Aiken, South Carolina. She was a lifelong citizen of Aiken County and was the oldest daughter of 11 children. Mrs. Johnson was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints, Coker Springs Ward, in Aiken, where she served in many positions throughout her life. She leaves a legacy of hard work and selfless service to others. She loved gardening and surrounding her home with beautiful creations. Her dogs and cats brought her much joy throughout life, especially in her later years.

Mrs. Johnson worked in Herron's Grocery Store and Leverett's Shoes where she enjoyed her association with many people. She was a former foster parent and also worked in a pilot program in Aiken County for the South Carolina Department of Mental Health running a personal care home for the elderly.

Her kind gentle thoughtful sweet example will live on in the nurturing example she was to all who were blessed to be in her quiet path.

Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her parents and husband, John S. Johnson, and by siblings Grady Elijah Herron, Dalton Collins Herron, John Joseph Burts Herron, Dorothy H. Clark, and Robert Laddie Herron.

Survivors include her daughters, Alice (Cliff) Ranson, Betty (Robert) Bowen of Aiken, SC and Edna (Kim) Lombardy of Martinez, GA; 11 grandchildren, Jared Ranson, Audrey Waldrop, Jason Ranson, Kippen Wilhoit, Wendel Ranson, Holley Howell, Michael Bowen, Lisa Grassam, Robert Bowen, April Partridge, Rhonda Banks; 2 step-grandchildren, Vince Lombardy, Laura Pascazio; 27 great grandchildren, 5 siblings: Owen F. Herron, Heber T. Herron, Barbara H. Britt, Lottie H. Snipes and Mary Ann H. Lynes, all of Aiken.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 8 o'clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held Saturday morning at 10 o'clock at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints, Coker Springs Ward, in Aiken with Bishop Neal Askew officiating. Interment will follow in Bethany Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jared Ranson, Mark Waldrop, Wendel Ranson, Michael Bowen, Robert E. Bowen and Robert H. Bowen. Honorary Pallbearers will be Owen Herron, Heber Herron, Jack Lynes, Clifford Ranson, Raymond Phillips and Mark Roberts.
