Wanatah -- Vera V. Billerbeck, age 78, of Wanatah, passed away Saturday, March 30, 2002, at Porter Memorial Hospital. A lifetime Wanatah resident, she was born September 27, 1923, in Wanatah to Ludwig and Pauline (Kuehn) Werner and graduated from Wanatah High School in 1941. She worked as an assembler and inspector at McGill Bearing Division for 20 years, retiring in 1983, and was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church of Wanatah and the Ladies Aid.
On February 25, 1944, at St. John Lutheran Church, she married Howard Billerbeck, who preceded her in death in 1974. Surviving are three daughters, Carol (Ray) Lawrence of Kouts, Marilyn (Green) Risner of Valparaiso and Phyllis (Carey) Gorski of LaCrosse; long-time special friend, Gus Schuelke of Wanatah; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Earl, Raymond and Willard Werner.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Wanatah with the Rev. Joel Zipay officiating. Burial to follow at St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Family and friends may greet Vera's family Wednesday morning at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church. Wanatah Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
