Old Time Resident Answers Final Call
James H. Tucker, a resident of Chouteau county for the past 35 years, passed away at a hospital in Great Falls on Friday afternoon after an illness of about three weeks. Death was caused by kidney trouble. Mr. Tucker had made his home in Great Falls with a daughter, Mrs. Frank Morrison, for the past few years. He retired from the ranch a number of years ago and lived for several years in Fort Benton.
Mr. Tucker was highly respected by all who knew him and he will be mourned by a large circle of friends throughout the county.
He was born Feb. 23, 1859, at Gore, Ohio, where he spent his early life. There in 1881 he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Eckhart. The family came to Montana in 1914 and homesteaded what is now known as part of the Roy Swerdfeger ranch, where they resided for a good many years. Mrs. Tucker passed away Oct. 12, 1924.
Mr. Tucker was past 90 years of age. He was a member of the Masonic lodge for the past 52 years and was the last of a family of ten children.
He is survived by the following children: M. P. Tucker, Mrs. Morrison, and Gail Tucker, all of Great Falls; Mrs. Virgil Cox and Nolan Tucker, of Fort Benton; Daniel Tucker of New York City; Mrs. Hugh Stephens of Salem, Ore.; and Carl Tucker of Bozeman. One daughter, Mrs. R. E. Nixon, of New Straitsville, Ohio, passed away June 22, 1944. Also surviving are 25 grandchildren besides other relatives and many friends.
The remains were brought to Fort Benton and funeral services were held at the First Christian church at 3 p.m. Sunday, conducted by Rev. Wallace A. Smith of Missoula, former pastor of the local church. The local Masonic lodge had charge of graveside service at the Riverside cemetery where interment was made. The relatives have the sympathy of all in their bereavement.
