He was born July 18, 1942, in Oelwein, son of Clement Michael and Margaret Jane Oakes Hannan. He married Linda Jean Whitaker on April 10, 1965, in Oelwein.
Mr. Hannan graduated from Sacred Heart, Oelwein, in 1960. In 1958 he started work at Mike's IGA, Oelwein, and later became store manager, retiring in 1988 after 30 years. He then worked at Duffy's Shoes, Oelwein, for a short time. In 1989 he began work at the Mental Health Institute, Independence, and worked there as a resident psych worker until he was not able to work due to his health. He also operated Cozy Cottage Antiques and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Survived by: his wife; two sons, Mark of Greenville, Ill., and Tim of Des Moines; three grandchildren; a great-grandson; six sisters, Mildred (George) Smith of Waterloo, Elaine (Nick) Britten of New Auburn, Wis., Kay Bouck and Marge Miller, both of Oelwein, Karen (Robert) Lamphier of Fayette and Janet (Bill) Rhoades of Maynard; and four sisters-in-law, Virginia Hannan of Denver, Debbie Hannan of Fairbank, and Pat Hannan and Helen Hannan, both of Oelwein.
Preceded in death by: four brothers, James, Joseph, David and Wayne.
Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery, both in Oelwein. Public visitation from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, with a 7 p.m. parish Scripture service. Visitation also 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
