Carl was born in Braesen by Coswig in Anhalt, Germany. He was the son of Christian Friedrich Prinz & Augusta Sophie Heinrich Prinz and the brother to Albert, Frank, Wilhelm, Gottlob and three others in Germany. Carl married Frederika Sterdt Prinz and their children were Friederike Anna, Wilhelm and Alvina Pauline (twins), Ida Mahlow, Herman and a deadborn child June 17, 1892. Carl died near Pflugerville.

The original autobiography written by Carl Prinz, Sr. was found in the Willie Mahlow home by Helen Wendland Mahlow, and was translated by Hildegarde Steger Gebert, 12-31-1997.

"Born the 13th of May 1845 in Braesen by Coswig in Anhalt, Germany. When I was 14 years old, I got out of school and confirmed. My confirmation memory verse was: When I have you only etc and another one: The Lord is my Shepherd etc. And from then I left home. For 12 years I worked. Eight years for farmers, two years for the mill by Hundeluft in Anhalt and two years by our Pastor Schwenke in Weiden, the one who confirmed me also in Anhalt Germany.

On the 30th of August, my wife Friederika nee Sterdt from Duben in Anhalt Germany and I were united in Holy Matrimony. And then were determined to leave our home and Fatherland in order to find a new home. Our destination was America. We started our trip on the 6th of September of the same year. Our parting song was "Jesus still lead on". For two weeks we had a nice trip, but then a big storm hit and we were all scared and terrified. We thought that we were going to have a watery grave, but thank the Lord the 6th of October we landed in Galveston and then on the 7th we were in Austin. Then we lived four years in Dessau. In the fall of 1877 we made our home in Richland. It was very lonely, few people and no church. We had hard times. We worked hard until we had a small congregation formed and worked even harder so that we could build a church, so well as we could for the times. I am the last charter member living of the congregation."
