A retired instrument technician with Exxon Co. USA and a resident of Zwolle, he died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at Heritage Manor in Napoleonville. He was 77 and a native of Baton Rouge. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Visiting at Welsh Funeral Home, 6700 Florida Blvd., 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, with a rosary that will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Visiting at the funeral home chapel, 10 a.m. until religious services at noon Monday, conducted by the Rev. Maynard Hurst. Burial in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. He is survived by his wife, Jeanette "Jan" Achord; stepmother, Josephine Achord; two daughters, Terry Nabi of Cedar Park, Texas, and Becky Ballien and her husband, Gary, of Baker; five sons and spouses, Lester Jr. and Jo Ann Achord and Ricky and Linda Achord, all of Baton Rouge, David "Randy" and Dewanna Achord of Napoleonville, Walter "Dub" Achord of Natchez, Miss., and Mike and Marsha Achord of Marion, Ill.; three brothers, Leighton and Elgene Achord, both of Baton Rouge, and Chester Achord Jr. of Springfield; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gertrude and Chester Achord Sr.; a sister, Verna Raborn; and a brother, Jerome Achord. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Lester Achord III, Steven, Russell, Dale and Mikey Achord, Lynn and Sharif Nabi. Honorary pallbearers are his granddaughters Lisa Pitts, Regina Breard, Misty Fuller, Danielle Holloway, Sheri Moss and Christina Achord. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Zwolle, Knights of Columbus Council No. 4818, Zwolle, and Zwolle-Erab VFW Post No. 5187. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church Improvement Fund, P.O. Box 8, Zwolle LA 71486 or to a charity of choice.
