Funeral services for Mr. Chester Achord Jr will be 1 pm Saturday at the chapel of Seale Funeral Home Denham Springs; visitation will begin after 10 am until time of the service; interment with Military Honors will follow at Carter Cemetery Springfield, LA; Rev. Paul Taylor will conduct the service.
Mr. Achord was born November 28, 1921 in Baton Rouge to the union of Chester and Gertrude Thibodaux Achord and departed from this life on the morning of Wednesday January 8, 2014 at North Oaks Medical Center Hammond.
He was a resident of Springfield; retired with Exxon Oil Company; a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church Livingston; an ordained Deacon for fifty years; taught a Sunday School class of senior adult men for forty years; a lifetime member of American Legion Post 258; past president and lifetime member of Baton Rouge oil and Chemical Workers Union and served with the United States Navy during WWII.
He is preceded in death by his parents, sons Chester A. Achord III, Stephan Dale Achord, step son John Wimberlin Kerr, siblings Lester Achord (twin), Elgene Achord, Leighton Achord, Mrs. Tom "Verna" Rayborn and Jerome Achord.
Survivors include his wife of forty years Dorothy Faller Achord; children Mrs. Marvin (Vicki) Smith of Baton Rouge, Mrs. Bill (Fay) Thiel of DeWitt, Michigan; stepchildren Kandace Whitehead, Dale Stognert, Dan Lucido all of Livingston and Robin Kerr of Navarre, Florida; grandchildren Clay, Craig, Raymond, Garrett, Stacy, Stephen, Claudia and Jason; also survived by 13 great grandchildren, host of nieces and nephews.
Memorials preferred to Pine Grove Baptist Church.
