Ruth Buchanan Cain was born to Pearl (Webster) and John Francis Buchanan in Enterprise, Mercer County, PA in 1900. She was their only child. She lived most of her adult life in Sewickley, PA, but after her mother died in 1977, she relocated to Long Beach, CA where her only living daughter resided.

All throughout her life she was known for her beautiful singing voice, and as a young girl sang in the Methodist Church Choir in Butler, PA. Her family moved to Butler, PA when she was in her teen years where she completed 11 years of schooling and met and married Horace Levi Cain in 1918.

Her talents were of being a great cook and baker of pies and cakes and playing the piano. She was very pretty, and as a young girl stood 5' 7 1/2" with platium blond hair. She was once asked to be a model for Troutman Department Store in Butler, but her parents would not allow it. She was very devoted to the Methodist Church of Sewickley, PA, and was a good mother to her children.

She died at the age of 89 in Long Beach, CA of complications after an exploratory surgery.
