He married Pearl Webster Buchanan in New York in 1899 and from this marriage was born only one daughter, Ruth. They lived most of their married life in Butler, Pennsylvania.
'Grandpa Jack' spent a good deal of his working life in and around the Butler area coal mines. (He was thought to have been a distant cousin of President James Buchanan) He was a member of the First Methodist Episcopal Church of Butler and The Order of Knights of Pythias.
He died in Butler, PA of black lung disease at the age of 71.
He was a lot of fun to be around, and he loved children.
