He was a very good punter in football during his Sewickley, PA High School years...good enough to earn a scholarship to Pitt University in Pittsburgh, PA. Unfortunately WWII came along and, instead of pursuing a college career, he entered into the Navy.
While still in high school he met a girl, Betty Jane Haley, and they were married on June 5, 1941.
Jack's last port-of-call with the Navy was in San Diego where he served aboard the U.S.S. Klondike during World War II. He enlisted on September 18, 1941 and was honorably discharged on December 19, 1945. His rank was MM3/C. After he was discharged, he and his family made San Digeo their home for the rest of their lives.
He worked for the shipyards in San Diego for his remaining work years. He and Betty Jane (Haley) had three children together: Sandra Lee, Jack Robert and Larry Lee. Sandra is buried in Sewickley, PA while Jack Robert and Larry are buried in Greenwood Memorial Park in San Diego, CA.
Jack was an avid fan of the San Diego Chargers! The family had season tickets to the games for many years.
