Obituary: Eva Gertrude (Hutson) Sears
Mrs. Merle Sears Laid to Rest Wednesday, March 4
Mrs. Merle Sears passed away in the local hospital, Monday March 2 after a long and trying illness. Memorial serves were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from Simmons chapel in Smith Center with the Rev. Francis Runyon officiating.
Elsie Frutiger, Clista Hofer, Esther Freeborn and Mae Kelling were vocalists, accompanied by Lean Frutiger.
Interment was in Cedar cemetery. Pallbearers were Milo Frutiger, Hugh Hamilton, Vernon Kirchhoff, Everett Roseberry, Kenneth Freeborn and Floyd Freeborn.
Eva Gertrude was born to Arthur W. and Rose C. (Reed) Hutson, Jan 10, 1899 at Cedar, Kansas. At the age of 18, on March 10, 1917 she was united in marriage to Merle M. Sears. To this union were born 12 children: Vada Rose, Melba Merlene, Gael, Enid Catherine, Glen Melvill, Merle Harvey, Eva Joice, Paul McKinley, Alvey Keith, Leeta Lou, Bertha Beth, and Cleo Lawrence.
She was baptized into the Christian church at Cedar as young girl. She loved her Lord and truly lived a Christian life.
She was a loving wife and mother, and a friend to everyone, always doing something for someone. She was a great lover of flowers and always had so many beautiful ones. We are surely going to miss seeing her out in her garden.
Three sons preceded her in death: Merle Harvey, Paul McKinley, and Glen Melvill.
Eva left his earthly life March 2 at 5:20 am, just eight days before their 47th wedding anniversary.
She leave to mourn her passing, her husband, Merle; 9 children, Vada Reed, Smith Center; Melba Jones, Atchison; Gael, Alma, Neb; Enid Blair, Rock Springs, Wyo., Joice Pearce, Smith Center; Keith, Kansas City, Mo; Leeta Rudolph, Norton, Beth Conaway, Smith Center, and Cleo, Smith Center; 36 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, an Uncle, Albert M Hutson, and a host of other relatives and friends.
