Vada Rose Sears Reed was born in Valley Township, Smith County on March 13, 1918 and passed away on March 26, 2004 at Long Term Care in Smith Center, KS.
She was the first child of Merle McKinley Sears and Eva Gertrude Hutson Sears.
She married Howard Q. Reed on September 16, 1945 in Topeka, KS. No children were born to this union.
Preceeding her in death were her parents, Merle McKinley Sears and Eva Gertrude Hutson Sears, and her husband, Howard Q. Reed and 6 siblings, Cleo Sears, Glen Sears, Eva Joice Sears Pearce, Enid Catherine Sears Blair Hayes, Paul Sears, and Harvey Sears,
Surviving are three sisters and two brothers, Bertha Beth Sears Carlton of Red Cloud, NE; Melba Merlene Sears Lyster of Beloit, KS; and Leeta Lou Sears Rudolph of Almena, KS; A. Keith Sears of Smith Center, KS; Gael Sears of Ravenna, NE., and their spouses as well as a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Vada enjoyed her home and her yard with many beautiful varieties of flowers. Her favorite flower was the Iris and her favorite color was lavender. She collected books, dolls and horse statuary. Vada enjoyed making jewelry and doll clothes.
Her working career included learning to sew at the NYA center in Smith Center making shirts, at Peterson's Industries, and the Smith County Hospital.
Vada loved the Lord. She enjoyed reading the Bible and always studied her Sunday school lesson. She was faithful to her church in giving her tithes, even when she could no longer attend.
She leaves this message for her family and friends: I love you all and each one has been a blessing to me.
