Born Avus Francis Kiemsteadt to Julius F. Kiemsteadt and Hilda "Lola" Mershon. She was their oldest child. She was not able to locate a birth certificate and later applied for a delayed certificate with her name spelled Avis Frances Kiemsteadt. She married Joseph Norman and they had three children, Sylvia (later changed to Kate), Richard and Karen. After Joseph died, Avis remarried in June 1952 to David Bolton, a Navy commander living in Bremerton and attorney. After a briefly unhappy marriage they divorced about a year later. She married a third and final time to Ross Hall, a policeman. After a 20-year marriage, they divorced. She went by Avis Norman Hall until her death. She was cremated and her ashes scattered at her favorite places in Arizona and Colorado. Avis was a nurse by profession. She also enjoyed bridge and sewing.
