STANFORD - Truman E. Bastin, 79, of Stanford died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009, at Fort Logan Hospital.

Born Monday, Nov. 11, 1929, in Lincoln County, Ky., he was a son of Ray and Ethyl Robinson Bastin. Truman sacrificed for his country in the Korean War, receiving a Purple Heart with the Company L, 15th Infantry, Regiment APO 468. Truman retired after 18 years of service at Saufley Implement Co., was a farmer and devoted father. Truman was a former deacon of Calvary Hill Baptist Church and currently a member of Mount Vernon Church of Christ.

Truman leaves behind his second wife, Lois Jane Bastin of Stanford, whom he wed Feb. 3, 1996; a son, Truman D. Bastin and his wife Kelly of Glasgow, Ky.; a daughter, Susan Moore and her husband the Rev. Jason of Ferguson, Ky.; two stepsons, Ricky Cromer and his wife Patty, and Wayne Burton and his wife Jennifer, both of Brodhead; a stepdaughter, Bonnie Elam and her husband Jody of Crab Orchard; five grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Sam Bastin of Stanford; and three sisters, Bessie Allen of Stanford, Dean Enging of Mississippi, and Ann Andress of Oxford, Ohio.

Truman was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Laura Moore Bastin; and eight brothers and sisters.

An Appreciation of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009, at Fox Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jason Moore and Bro. Marvin Cromer officiating. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery with military rites by Caswell Saufley Post 18 of the American Legion and the United States Army Honor Guard.

Active pallbearers will be Chase Moore, Jody Elam, Mark Bastin, Ricky Cromer, Travis Bastin and Wayne Burton. Honorary pallbearers are Barbara Smith, his grandson Caleb Moore, Charles Machal and Robert Elkins.
