"Last Rites for John L. Hart, 83, Are Held Wednesday Afternoon"
Funeral services for John L. Hart, 83, of Valentine, lifelong county resident, were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Methodist Church at Valentine, and burial was made in Greenwood Cemt. The church pastor, Rev. Wayne Mitchell, officiated. The aged man died at his home early Monday morning following a long illness with sugar diabetes. Two years ago he underwent a leg amputation, and later he was able to walk with the help of crutches, becoming bedfast about 6 weeks ago. Three sons, William E. of Fort Wayne, John L. Hart, Jr., at home, and Henry D. Hart of Valentine; one daughter, Mrs. Viola Danialson of Battle Creek, Mich.; 13 grandchildren, and five brothers: Alfred of Topeka, Alonzo of Stroh, Daniel of Goshen, Bert of Wolcottville, and Allen of Wolcottville are those surviving. The son of James and Barbara (Seedles) Hart, the deceased was born in this county on Sept. 24, 1858. His wife the former Louella Baker, died five years ago. He served as a section foreman on the Pennsylvania Railroad for 50 years, retiring a number of years ago. The body was brought to the Caton Brothers Funeral Home, and returned to the late home Tuesday afternoon. John L. Hart and James Hart, 79, of LaGrange who was buried last Saturday afternoon, were first cousins.
