Huxsol Rites Are Held at Wolf Point Pioneer Business Man Of Northeast Montana An Early Day Druggist

WOLF POINT, Feb. 13. (Special) Funeral services for Alfred W. Huxsol, Wolf Point pioneer business man, who died Friday, were held at the high school gymnasium auditorium, which was filled nearly to capacity. Many friends came from Poplar, Culbertson, Froid and Glasgow. The funeral sermon was preached by the Rev. A. H. Cropp of the Presbyterian mission here. Masonic and Eastern Star ritualistic services were also held, Masonic services being conducted by Dennis Kelly of Oswego, a long-time friend of Huxsol. Burial will be at Charles City. Ia.

Alfred W. Huxsol was born at Charles City Nov. 11, 1881. He attended the public schools there and completed his education as a pharmacist at Northwestern university. Soon after passing his Iowa pharmacist examinations he came to Culbertson to be a pharmacist in the Valley Drug Co. He became sole owner of the drug store in 1909. Subsequently he owned interests in drug stores at Medicine Lake and Poplar. He started a drug store in Wolf Point in 1915 or 1916 and came here to manage it in 1919. He was one of the organizers of the Wolf Point Citizen's National bank in 1917, and was president of the bank for several years. After consolidation of the Citizen's bank and the First National, he was. for several years president of the First National. He built a brick block here and owned several other buildings.

At Redwing, Nov. 25, 1908, he married Miss Elizabeth Matthews. Two sons were born, Russell, taking a medical course at Chicago, and Robert, a student at Montana State university. Mrs. Huxsol died at Culbertson in November, 1918, a few days before the family planned to move to Wolf Point.

Besides his sons, Huxsol is survived by his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Huxsol, 86, of Charles City; seven sisters, and three brothers. He affiliated with the Masonic lodge at Culbertson and transferred to Loyalty lodge 121, Wolf Point. He was a member of the Scottish Rite consistory at Helena and Algeria Temple of the Mystic Shrine. In politics, he was a conservative republican. For a number of years he was a director of the commercial club.
