"Not much is known of Woodrow. He grew up in Sheridan County of North Dakota until 1925 when several members of his family perished in a fire. Two years later, he moved to Oregon with his mother, obtained work and helped supplement his mother's income for the family. He joined he CCCs in Oct of 1935. From his discharge papers, it was learned that he was a blacksmith by trade. While enlisted, he did park construction work as a blacksmith and acted as senior foreman. His company commander makes this statement: "He has proved to be a capable and conscientious worker, always interested in his work. He has also proved honest and of good moral character." He was discharged in Oct. 1936. he then worked as a machinist and Heliarc welder in stainless steel. His cause of death was lung and bone cancer.
