David is the second child born in the marriage of Louisa Jane Scott and William H. Fisher who married in Fort Bend County, Texas on 22 October 1840. There were six known children born to this marriage: William H. Jr.(Fannie Branton), David (Fannie Branton), Elizabeth Ann, James Vaughn (Francis Jordan), Eliza Jane (James Standifer), Jeramiah (John Mabry).

David's father, William Fisher, is listed as Justice of the Peace for Bastrop County, Texas in 1845.

The 1850 Bastrop County, Texas census shows William H. Fisher age 35 born Ohio; Jane age 26 born Alabama; William age 08 born Texas; David age 06 born Texas; Elizabeth A. age 04 born Texas; James 03 born Texas; Eliza Jane 01 born Texas. Oral history has been told that William Fisher died in Bastrop County, Texas about 1853. This date has not been confirmed by this writer; however, Jane Fisher paid the Bastrop County, taxes in the year 1854. There is evidence that Louisa Jane Scott Fisher moved from Bastrop County, to Washington County, Texas. Three of her children are listed on the Texas Scholastic Census in the enumeration of school children of Texas for 1854-1855.

Listed on the 1860 Burleson County Texas census are children from the marriage of William Fisher and Jane Scott Fisher: David Fisher, Elizabeth Fisher, James Fisher, Jane Fisher, Jemminah "Dolly" Fisher and the children of marriage of William R. Mills and Eliza Jane Scott Fisher Mills: Lydia Mills, Margaret Mills, and Martha Mills.
Two addition children were born during the 1860-1870 decade: W. Abner and Alice Mills

Bastrop County Marriage Records show that David Fisher married Fannie D. Fisher on 14 January 1874.

The David Fisher Family is listed on the 1880 Bastrop County, Texas Census as David Fisher age 37; Fannie D. Fisher age 34; John W. Fisher age 14; Edith Fisher age 05; David A. Fisher age 02; and Walter J. Fisher age 6m.

The David Fisher Family is listed on the 1900 Bastrop County, Texas census as David Fisher age 56; Fannie Fisher age 53; Andrew Fisher age 24; Walter Fisher age 19; Lee Fisher age 14 and niece Susie Taylor age 25, a daughter of one of Fannie's sister Mary Elizabeth Branton who married William Taylor.

The David Fisher Family is listed on the 1910 Bastrop County, Texas as head of house David Fisher age 66; Fannie Fisher age 64; Andrew Fisher age 32; James Fisher age 28 ; Finis Wilson age 30 shown as a nephew; and Susie Taylor age 35 a daughter of one of Fannie's sister Mary Elizabeth Branton who married William Taylor. Note: Finis Wilson's death certificate shows he is the son of J. L. Wilson and Martha Bobbitt.

During the decade 1910 to 1920 life changed in Bastrop County to include the "deadly flu". David died on Mar. 26, 1918 and Fannie died on Mar. 30, 1918. The book that include this time frame in the Bastrop County Clerk's Office are entries rather than a complete certificate.

A entry in the obituary of their son, Andrew, states that they "resided on the old Fisher homestead just south of Elgin". Both parents died in 1918, Andrew married in 1918, and resided on the old Fisher homestead just south of Elgin.

The 17th Texas Volunteer Infantry was organized in January 1862 and Commanded by Colonel Robert T. P. Allen. There is a listing for David Fisher as a member of the 17th Infantry, Company C.
