NATIVE TEXAN, 83 YEARS OF AGE, PASSES AWAY MONDAY

James Vaughn Fisher, 83 years of age died at his home near Elgin Monday Morning at 10 o'clock. Funeral services were held from the family residence at 2 p.m. Tuesday, the Rev. G. M. McNeilly pastor of the First Baptist Church, conducting the services, and interment made in the family burial plot at the Elgin Cemetery.

Mr. Fisher was a native Texan, born in Bastrop County January 4, 1848. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Fisher, were Bastrop County pioneers, sturdy folk who braved the dangers of an unknown and unsettled land to make a home and rear their children. This son, James Vaughn grew to manhood in this new and growing country, too young to take part in the Civil War, yet he remembered its vicissitudes. He was married to Miss Francis Pricilla Jourdan, January 27, 1880. He established his home near here and engaged in farming, making quite a success of his vocation. Thrifty and God fearing, he soon became a man of prominence and influence in his community. He was a devoted husband and father, a loyal friend, and a law abiding citizen. Truly he lived a long life well.

He is survived by his widow, two daughters, Mrs. Georgia Gillum of Elgin and Mrs. Lucy Jane (R. J.) Neiman of Denison, two sons, Lewis and Leslie Fisher, both of Elgin, one sister, Mrs. Dolly Mabrey of Austin, two half-sisters, Mrs. Alice Jones and Mrs. Martha McCright, both of Elgin, and one half-brother, Mr. Ab Mills of Elgin.

Those from away in attendance at the funeral were Robert Moore and Mrs. W. A. Brady of Temple, Mrs. Gus Morene, Mrs. Dolly Mabrey, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Study, Mrs. John Payton and daughters, Pauline and Beulah, Mrs. John Mabrey and son, Jack Neiman of Austin, Mrs. W. D. Espay of Taylor, Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Neiman and sons of Denison and Mr. Green Upchurch, of Leander.
