Antonie was born to Martinus and Grietje (van Rooden) deJong who were farmers near Pella Iowa. He had five brothers and one sister - Pieter Jacob, Arie (who died at sea of the cholera), Arie Cornelius, Albert, Gysbertje, and John.

March 1, 1892 he was married to Geertje DeGeus in Pella IA by the Rev. Peter DePree, the pastor of First Reformed Church. They had seven sons and eight daughters - Margrieta, Cornelius (who only lived a couple months), another Cornelius (who lived less than a month), Nellie, Martina, Cornelius (Neal), John William, Jozena, Albertha (who lived about 2 months), Albert, William, Gysbertha (Grace), Antonie (Tony), Gertrude, and Anne Clara. It must have been difficult for them to lose those three babies.

They were farmers, with approximately 100 acres, made molasses and had a smoke house. They smoked pork for extra incomes. They raised mostly hogs and had some other animals. They also had apple, peach, and pear trees and grapevines. Their farm has been designated as a Century Farm.

Antonie came in from gathering the eggs on a very cold winter day and sat down to rest. He had a heart attack and died instantly.
