Funeral services for Mrs. John C. Den Hartog, 71, of 510 E. 1st St in Pella, will be held on Wednesday morning at 10:00 a m. at the Trinity Reformed Church in Pella with the Rev. Wayne Hall officiating Burial under direction of the Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home will take place at the Oakwood Cemetery Mrs. De Jong was the former Jozena De Jong and is survived by 2 children Raymond of Clear Lake and Betty, Mrs Kenneth Glewen of Eau Glaris, Wisc.

Her husband, John Survives and 6 grandchildren and 10 brothers and sisters: Mrs. W A (Margaret) Boaards, Mrs Lewis (Tena) Ozinga, Mrs Arnold (Grace) Witzenberg, Mrs William ( Gertrude) De Kock and Mrs Bert (Ann) Hoksbergen all of Pella.

Her brothers surviving are Neal De Jong of Oskaloosa; John W. and Albert De Jong of Pella; and William and Tony De Jong of Leighton. Memorials may be designated for the Christian Opportunity Center. Mrs. Den Hartog passed away unexpectedly at her residence, 510 E. 1st St in Pella on Monday morning.

Josena (sometimes spelled Jozena or Jocena) also called Josie was born to Antonie and Geertje/Gertrude (nee de Geus) deJong in the Black Oak area of Mahaska County in Iowa. Antonie owned his own farm raising hogs, some cattle and milk cows, chickens and ducks. He made molasses and had a smoke house and smoked pork for income. They also had a large garden and an orchard that contained apples, peaches, pears and grapes. As many farm girls did, Josena worked on the farm.

She had 14 siblings - Margaret (Maggie) born 1893, Cornelius born and died 1893, another Cornelius born and died 1894, Nellie, born 1895, Martina born 1897, Cornelius (Neal) born 1898, John W. born 1899, Albertha born and died 1901, Albert born 1903, William born 1905, Grace born 1906, Antonie (Tony) Jr born 1907, Gertrude born 1910, and Anna Clara born 1912.

Josena completed the 8th grade and February 9, 1922 she married John Cornelius Den Hertog. John was the son of Cornelius and Anna (nee VanVeen) Den Hertog. John was the proprietor of the local Drug Store.

Josena and John and two children - Raymond Glen born 1924 who died 2011 and Betty Joyce born 1930 who died 2005.

Josena died at 71 years old leaving her husband of 49 years.
