By 1901 the family had moved to Black Oak Township in Mahaska County and farmed in that area.
Peter became a naturalized citizen in 1887 and also that year, February 20, he married Willempje (Wilma)de Bruin. They were members of the Third Reformed Church at that time.
After farming in Black Oak Township, they moved to a farm near Peoria and joined the Peoria Christian Reformed Church where he served both as a deacon and an elder.
In 1914 they purchased 211 acres in Richland Township, Mahaska County near other family members. They had cows, horses, hogs and chickens.
In 1925 they moved to 502 Liberty St. in Pella where they became members of the Second Reformed Church.
