S. E. McEACHERN

After an illness of short duration, S.E. McEachern died last Saturday night at his home on Main Street at 9 o’clock, and in his death Lucedale loses one of its pioneer citizens, he being one of the first settlers moving into the new town. He came here when quite a young man and entered the employ of the Luce & Co. logging interests as clerk in the Basin store, where he served for several years and while there married Miss Hulda Nyman. When Lucedale was in its infancy he moved here and was for a time connected with the mercantile business; later, he accepted a position as traveling salesman with a hardware firm and remained with them for about twenty-five years. For the past few years he has been identified with some of the oil companies looking after land leases. Since moving to Lucedale he has been prominently identified with every progressive move for the advancement and development of Lucedale and surrounding country.

His funeral was held at the Methodist Church, of which he was a member, Monday at 10 o’clock, with Rev. W.H. Lewis, his pastor, assisted by Rev. E.C. Gunn, Presiding Elder of New Orleans district, officiating; and he was buried in the Lucedale cemetery, P.P. Bailey, Clinton Reid, J.M. Dorsett, T.H. Byrd, Greg Dickin and O.E. Ward acting as pall bearers.
He is survived by his wife, three daughters, Mrs. J.F. Calhoun of Hattiesburg, Mrs. Mal Ward and Hilda Fay; three sons, Herman, Slater and Alex, all of Lucedale, and other relatives, and to these Times extends sympathy in their bereavement.

Out of town people attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Allen Hargrobve of Hattiesburg; Sidney Sutherlin of Wiggins; Rev. Elmer C.
