William R. Beaver Dies After Lengthy Illness
The commander of American Legion Post 6, William Richard Beaver, 45, Kokomo R.R. 4, died in St. Joseph Memorial Hospital at 2 p.m. Tuesday. He had been ill for a year and one-half. Born Feb. 13, 1925, in Kokomo, he was the son of Emil and Agnes (Ryan) Beaver. On May 29, 1948, he was married to Elizabeth Wicker, who survives. Other survivors are a son, William Richard Beaver Jr., Kokomo; the mother, also fo Kokomo; a sister, Mrs. Paul (Elizabeth) Catron; four brother, John Beaver, Daniel E. Beaver, Lawrence E. Beaver and Edwin W. Beaver, all of Kokomo, and one grandchildren.
In addition to his post as legion commander, Mr. Beaver was commander of the Howard County Veterans Council. He held membership in St. Patrick Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1152, and Local 292, United Auto workers. He was employed in the maintenance department at Delco Radio Division and was a professional draftsman and chef. He had worked at Kings Crown Inn, at the Casa Grande Restaurant and at the former Crest Club.
He was recipient of the General Motors Corporation Community Service Award. Under the auspices of AAU, he organized the first roller skating club in Kokomo.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Friday in St. Patrick Catholic Church with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Arthur Sego officiating. Burial will be in Crown Point cemetery, and military honors will be given at the site.
Scripture services will be read at 8 pm Thursday in Ellers Funeral Chapel, where friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. [Kokomo (Ind.) Tribune, Wednesday, July 22, 1970]
