KARL THOMPSON RITES HELD ON MONDAY; DIES SATURDAY

Funeral service for Robert Karl Thompson was held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct 4, at Hutson Funeral Home chapel. The Rev. Dale McCord, his pastor, was assisted by the Rev. S. D. Garrett of Meridian in the rites that were concluded at the graveside in Masonic Cemetery where burial took place.

Mr. Thompson died Saturday night, Oct. 2, 1971. at the Newton Hospital, where he was admitted that afternoon. He had been in declining health for a number of months.

Owner of Thompson's Grocery on Bell Street and a lumber checker in active years, Mr. Thompson also had farming interests. He was a member of the Newton Presbyterian Church.

He was born in Newton Nov 20, 1889, his parents being Susie Harriett Chapman and William Daniel Thompson.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Leona Parnell Thompson, 216 East Bell St., Newton; three daughters, Mrs. C. W. Garrett (Evelyn) of Meridian, Mrs. Robert Coats (Dorothy) of Brooksville and Mrs. J. F. Earby (Harriett) of Meridian; four grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. D. D. Hollis of Newton and Mrs. A. M. Owens of Tuscumbia. Ala.

Pallbearers at the services included Johnny McMillan, Ray Gibson Jr.. George Nicholson, John G. Weatherford, Marks W. Jenkins and Wilmer Whittle.

Harriet Thompson And J. E. Earby Are Wed Here

On Saturday, Dec 6, at 10 a.m. Miss Maude Harriet Thompson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Karl Thompson of Newton, became the bride of James E. Earby, son of Mrs. Lonnie E. Williams of Newton, in a double ring ceremony performed in the home of the bride's parents. The Rev. E. L. Clark officiated.

Only members of the immediate families attended.

The bride served five years in the Women's Army Corps. She is employed at the Meridian Naval Station as a telephone operator.

Mr. Earby, a farmer and cattleman, is retired from the United States Air Force.

Mr. and Mrs. Earby are at home on Route 2, Box 204, Lauderdale, Miss. 39335.
