Olive Mercil, 99, of Crookston, died Saturday evening, May 16th at the Villa St. Vincent Nursing Home in Crookston.

Mrs. Mercil was born in Black River, Canada on January 31, 1888, the daughter of Michael and Ovtavia Desjardin Lance. She moved with her family to Genitlly as a young girl and grew up there. She was united in marriage to Stanislaus (Tenis) Mercil at Gentilly. Olive taught in the Gentilly school for nearly fifty years while Tenis worked as a carpenter. He died October 20, 1946. Mrs. Mercil later moved from Gentilly to Minneapolis to make her home with her son, Linus, and then with him to Louisiana. She later returned to Gentilly to live with her brother Fred. In September of 1975 she entered the Villa St. Vincent Nursing Home. She was a memeber of St. Peter's parish in Gentilly.

Family members include a son, Linus of Denham Springs, Louisiana; nine grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents, brothers and sisters.
