Wiley and Elizabeth moved to southern Illinois along with Elizabeth's father, John Ventile Tate and many other members of his family. Wiley farmed about 80 acres in Saline County. He was active in the community, serving on the grand jury and as a guardian for John V. Hollida(y), his wife's nephew.
Wiley's wife, Elizabeth, outlived him by 24 years. She is buried in Tate's Chapel Cemetery.
