Hooper Services Held Saturday, Christian Church
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the First Christian church for Eddie Colquit Hooper, 86, who died in a Crawford, Nebraska hospital on January 11 following a heart attack.
Mr Hooper was an early day resident of Ochiltree county, having filed on land in the Blodgett community, southwest of Perryton, where he lived until 1944 when he retired from the farm.
His wife died in 1951, and he had made his home in Perryton with his daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Nies, until about a year ago when he went to live with another daughter, Mrs. Alberta Baldwin, Nebraska.
He was born in Dale County, Alabama, on October 30, 1869, near Eufalda. He moved to Palo Pinto county in Texas about 1877 with his mother and became a cowboy, making many trail drives in his youth.
He married to Mary K. Davis in Mangum, Oklahoma on March 5, 1899. They moved to Alanreed, Texas in 1900, and then to Ochiltree county.
He fell ad broke his hip about three years ago and had been an invalid since that time. About three weeks before his death his bed clothes caught fire, inflicting severe burns about his body, and he was in the hospital receiving treatment for these burns, when the fatal heart attack came.
Rev. W. O. Harmon conducted the final rites Saturday. Pallbearers were Alton Witt, Giltner LaMaster, Irvin Hergert, Arch Talley, Lake Patton and Fred Tarbox.
He is survived by a son, Clyde L. Hooper of Dumas, two daughters, Mrs. C. C. Baldwin of Whitney, Nebraska, and Mrs Fred Nies of Perryton; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
