George Varner, 63, of 3452 North River Road, owner and operator of George's Market on Marietta Street, died at 7:51 p.m. Wednesday at Bethesda Hospital, shortly after admittance.
Born July 5, 1917, in Zanesville, he was a son of the late Harley and Helen Stenger Varner and was a lifetime resident of Zanesville.
Varner was a member of the Muskingum Valley Fishermen's Association.
Surviving are his wife, Alice Searl; one daughter, Mrs. William (Helen) Barks Sr. of 510 Eppley Ave.; two sons, Russ Varner of 38 Valley Gem Road and Jim Varner of Littleton, Mass.; three stepdaughters, Mrs. John (Jill) Fowler of 515 Seborn Ave., Mrs. Gary (Diane) Robbins of Clarksburg, Tenn., and Mrs. David (Cindy) Taylor of Maysville Pike; three stepsons, Jack Cabeen of San Diego, Calif., Dan Cabeen of Nashport, Phillip Hutchinson of Village Drive; one sister, Helen L. of 532 Grandview Ave.; one brother, Donald of Hanover, Mass.; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Bolin Funeral Home where funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. George A. Kimsey officiating. Burial will be in Beulah Cemetery near Mount Sterling.
