ZANESVILLE: Helen Louise Varner, 96 of Zanesville, died 8:30 PM, Monday, October 10, 2016 at the Oaks at Northpointe following a lengthy illness. She was born Sunday, April 11, 1920 in Zanesville, the daughter of Harley E. Varner and Helen G. (Stenger) Varner and was a lifelong member of Market Street Baptist Church.
Helen worked with her parents and brother in the Varner Grocery Store on Marietta Street and also Mees Carpet for many years. She had a kind heart and enjoyed helping others when in neeed.
Helen is survived by several nieces and nephews including: Jim (Edda) Varner & Barb Varner all of Zanesville, Kathy (Ron Reese) Varner & Anita (Chuck) LaBreque all of Massachusetts; one special cousin Clarice Varner of Nashport; many special great nieces and nephews and great, great nieces and nephews and their families.
In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her brothers: George R. (Alice) Varner & Donald E. (Ruth) Varner; a sister-in-law: Madeline Varner-Podiwin; one nephew: Russ Varner; one niece: Helen "Toni" Barks and one special cousin: Bob Varner.
Friends may call from 9:30 AM till 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 15, 2016 at the Hillis, Combs & Nestor Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, Zanesville where funeral services will follow at 11:00 AM with Rev. Scott Johnston officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at Beulah Cemetery in Nashport.
