NWP Telegrapher Dies at Age 67
Earl Edward Campbell, age 67, died February 3 in Fortuna. He was a native of Wisconsin, coming to California 28 years ago, making his home in Humboldt County and residing in Fortuna the past 12 years.
He was a World War I veteran serving with the United States Army. He was a telegrapher for over forty years, having worked for the Northwestern Pacific Rail Road since 1936. Was a member of the Order of Railroad Telegraphers.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Cleora O. Campbell, 1695 Clara Avenue; a daughter, Mrs. Mabel Shewmaker, Los Angeles; sons, Donald W. Campbell, Eureka, and Gene M. Campbell of Anaheim. One sister, Mrs. Grace Grass; 12 grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at the Pierce Mortuary of Eureka on Thursday, February 6 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.
