Paul Howarth Linton passed from this earth peacefully the afternoon of November 3, 2008 after a brief battle with an aortic aneurysm. He resided at 685 Country Club Drive in Stansbury Park, Utah at the time of his death.
He was born one of 10 children to Luthur and Valate Linton on October 30, 1924 in Salt Lake City, UT. He was married to Idla Doreen Smith then to Estella Foresman; both preceded him in death. He is survived by siblings: Marelyn, Margret, Louann and Nathan; four children, three of which were his own, one our stepbrother, whom dad took such a liking to, and decided he must be his son. We here honor his late adoption. They are: Romola Kayleen, Gwyendln, Blake, and Neil. He was very proud of his 22 grandchildren and 15 great-grand-children.
Paul served in the Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater in India and Burma. He served from 1943 to 1945 rising to the rank of Master Sargent. He was awarded the Good Conduct, and the Victory ribbons. He has told his children, and many others, many colorful stories of his service in the war and the many exotic places he had been. In his youth his family moved from Salt Lake City to Nephi, then to Kanab. We will all remember the many stories which remind us of our father's past.
His favorites seemed to be his journeys to the Midwest in his young teenage years to work for money for school in the wheat fields. While riding on the freight cars there and back he had many adventures. One story he was particularly proud of was his one day riding as an extra in John Ford's production of "Stage Coach".
After that he was a John Wayne fan for life. Some even observed that "Duke" swagger when dad walked. Dad will be remembered for his pleasant and gregarious personality. In his later days he would sit on the porch swing and greet all the school children as they went by. Sometimes he would call them pests but he loved it. We'll miss you, Dad.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2008 at 12 noon at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Road.
Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery.
