His death took place Thursday, May 6, 1920, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lewis Croxell near Cushing, Iowa. He had been in failing health the past few years.
John McCabe, the son of Patrick & Katherine (Fitzpatrick) McCabe was born in Jackson County, Iowa, June 28, 1849, and was in his 79th year at the time of his death. He was united in marriage to Miss Katherine Brown before coming to Ida County, where he was one of the sturdy pioneers who helped conquer the raw prairies.
Seven children were born to him: Mrs. Mary Schramling, Sharon, OK; William H McCabe, Washington, Iowa; Mrs. Maggie Schramling, Sharon, OK; Mrs. Anna Croxell, Cushing, Iowa; Frank McCabe and Mrs. Sadie (Sarah) Mellett, Sumter, SC; and Mrs. Catherine Cribb, Tacoma, WA.
The wife and mother preceded him in death about 34 years ago. Mr. McCabe is also survived by two brothers, Andrew McCabe of Sioux Falls, SD and Bernard McCabe of Watts, CA. He was also a brother of the late Luke McCabe of Ida Grove.
