Mary Lynn (Baker) Yates, 57, Vincennes, died Thursday at Good Samaritan Hospital, Vincennes, where she had been a patient two weeks. She had been in failing health several years.

Mrs. Yates was the secretary for the superintendent of Johnson county schools for 14 years. She retired in 1976 as secretary to the chairman of the social studies department at Vincennes University, Vincennes. She had lived in Knox county 14 years.

She was born Jan. 26, 1927 in Providence, Johnson County, to Custer and Mildred Z. (Eccles) Baker. She graduated from Union High School in 1945.
She was a member of Providence Christian Church.
A service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Vandivier-Tudor Funeral Home, Franklin, with Chris Baker officiating. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at First Mount Pleasant Cemetery, west of Franklin.
She is survived by her mother, Jessie (Baker) Park, Bargersville, who raised her from the age of 3; two sisters, Lorene Sloop, Bargersville, and Ramona Carter, Indianapolis; four brothers, Noel C. and Tim Baker, both of Franklin, and John and Steven Baker, both of Bargersville, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Lloyd O. and Sherman V. Baker.
The family requests that contributions be made in Mrs. Yates memory to the American Cancer Society.
