Ramona Louise Baker Carter, 80, passed away on Friday morning, August 16th, 2013 at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis. She was a resident of Indianapolis.
Ramona was born on October 5, 1932 in Providence, the daughter of the late Custer and Jessie (Bartley) Baker. She is survived by her husband of sixty-two years, Joseph “Joe” Carter whom she married on December 23, 1951. Other survivors include one son, Louis (Sue) Carter; one daughter, Monica (Greg) Heath; nine grandchildren, O.J. (Tonya) Haimes; Amanda Heath; Wyatt Heath; Chelsea (Chris) McFarland; Ryan Gillum; Crystal Heath; Sam Gillum; Sophia Carter and Annie Gillum,; one great-grandchild, Vayda Haimes; two step-grandchildren, Eric Kindred and Tina (Danny) Hayes; two step-great-grandchildren, Vivie Hayes and Maggie Hayes; one sister, Lorene Sloop; three brothers, Aaron Timothy (Vicki) Baker; John Bartley (Marilyn) Baker and Stephen Jesse (Kay) Baker; son-in-law, Bob Gillum and sister-in-law Deanna Baker and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in passing by a daughter, Sally Jo Gillum; three brothers, Lloyd Owen Baker, Noel Custer Baker and Sherman Virgil Baker; one sister, Mary Lynn Yates.
Ramona was a 1951 graduate of Union High School in Union Township where she was Valedictorian.
She retired as a Teacher’s Aide in Perry Township at Abraham Lincoln Elementary School.
She was a member and Sunday School Teacher at University Heights Christian Church. She was a member of the Indianapolis American Legion Auxiliary No. 355 and a member of the Indiana Senior Olympics Volleyball team.
Ramona was a Past President of the PTA at University Heights Elementary where she was honored for her many years of service with the organization.
She loved her family, horseback riding, sports, watching her grandchildren play sports, gardening, and mushroom hunting.
A service will be conducted on Monday, August 19th at 11:00 a.m. at Flinn and Maguire Funeral Home, 2898 North Morton Street, (U.S. 31 North) in Franklin. Friends may call on Sunday, August 18, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Nineveh Cemetery in Nineveh, Indiana.
