MILTON E. EDWARDS DIES ON FRIDAY AT PONTOTOC
The death of Milton E. Edwards cast a gloom of sorrow over Pontotoc County and elsewhere where he was know and highly esteemed. The end came at the home of his son, Joe C. Edwards, Pontotoc postmaster, last Friday following an illness of ten days. He was 86 years old.
The son of Jane Harris and John Edwards, the deceased was born in Talbot County, Ga., and in early childhood moved with his parents to Mississippi and settled around the present site of Troy, Pontotoc County. Later Mr. Edwards moved to Caloun County where for many years he was engaged in farming. He was first married to Miss Nancy Stewart, and to this union were born five sons and a daughter. In 1891 he was married to Miss Ida Costner, who survives.
For the past six years he had made his home in Pontotoc with his son, J.C. Edwards.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon with the Rev. Joe C. Gardner, pastor of the Pontotoc Presbyterian Church, and the Rev. Robert L. Ray, Jr., in charge. Burial was made in the Stewart's Cemetery in Calhoun County.
Surviving, besides his widow, Mrs. Ida Costner Edwards, are the following children; Mrs. W.C. Henry, Mrs. Garlan Ivy, Mrs. Winon Bagwell and J.C. Edwards, all of Pontotoc; Mrs. W.T. Hull, of Memphis; Mrs. Victor Miles, of Water Valley; Mrs. Vester Hurst, A.H. Edwards, G.M. Edwards, and Stanley Edwards, all of Banner; Mrs. Velma Holly, of Portland, Ore.; Hervert Edwards and Wash Edwards, both of Sarepta; Mrs. Hugh Peden, of Canton, Tex.; John Edwards, of Vance; Mrs. H.W. Jackson, of Jackson, Miss.; Mrs. Steve Henry, of Bruce, and a brother, Ed Edwards, of Monday, Texas.- Pontotoc Progress
