Levi M. Hall Passed Away Friday Night
Nintety-Two Years Old
Funeral Was Held Monday Afternoon at Methodist Church
L. M. Hall, one of the best known men in Homer Township, died Friday night at midnight from uremic poisoning. Mr. Hall took sick Monday of last week. His daughter, Miss Laura, a trained nurse from the Lakeview Hospital, Danville, was at his side all thru his sickness. Owing to his age odds were against him from the first day of sickness. Mr. Hall was a frequent visitor at The Enterprise office about two years ago this paper carried quite an interesting and lengthy account of his life.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the M. E. Church, Rev. J. A. Biddle officiating. Burial was at the G. A. R. cemetery. Pall bearers were J. T. Palmer, C. D. Babb, T. R. Orr, Wm. Judge, F. H. Barton and H. M. Smoot. An M. E. quartet sang.
The following obituary was read by Rev. Biddle at the services:
"Another of our oldest citizens has passed to other Great Beyond. He has braved the years down the western slope beyond man's allotted destination for lo, these 20 years and more, having reached the age of 92 years, 2 months and 16 days. He was the son of Frost Underlin and Maria Hall and was born in Indiana on June 19, 1827.
Mr. Levi M. Hall learned the trade of blacksmith and in the early days shod horses that drew the stage coaches over the route from Covington, Ind., to Johnson's Tavern.
He was three times married: in 1846 to Rachel Hollingsworth; in 1855 to Mary Darling and on October 12, 1876 to Mary Frances Patterson, who for nearly 43 years has been an efficient and devoted helpmeet and survives him.
The surviving children are Calvin Jenks Hall, of Bond County, Ill.; Mrs. Persis A. Bell, of Los Angeles, Calif.; Carey B. Hall, Danville, Ill., Adah M. Beazley, Dennison, Texas and Laura A., of Danville.
Mr. Hall arrived in the old town of Homer in October 1846 when all there was of the village was located by the creek near where Homer Park now is. For over 70 years he has resided in this community and has noted with an active interest all its varied changes. For many years he has been an active member of this Methodist church. He was always a Republican.
Among the out-of-town people attending the funeral were: Dr. and Mrs. O. O. Hall, Milford; Mr. and Mrs. Victor Nixon, Burnett Nixon, Mrs. Frank Turner, of Newport, Ind.; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hopper, of Dana, Ind.; Mrs. Alice Garlaugh, Dr. H. C. Holton, Mr. and Mrs. Taylor Garlaugh, of Sidell; George Meade, Lester Fellows, of Fithian; Lysander Smoot, Mr. and Mrs. Jackson Cromwell and daughter, Cora, of Fairmount; Mr. and Mrs. Porterfield Poage, Mrs. Jess Adair, Mrs. Chas. Bainbridge, Mrs. Chas Swisher, Fern Judge, Mrs. Will Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Findley of Danville; Mrs. Livia Ball, of Urbana; Mr. and Mrs. Will Morgan, and Thomas Berkley, of Ogden; James Dodd and family, Wm. Johnson and family, Jos. Waters, Mrs. Sarah Hodgson and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Waters all of Allerton; Calvin J. Hall, Smithboro, Ill; E. M. Beazley and wife, Dennison, Texas and many friends from the neighborhood where he resided when a younger man.
