Nellie was the oldest daughter of James Lucius Edwin and Ada Louise (Berrian) Clark. Born in Columbus, Washington, now called Maryhill.

She spent her early childhood across river at Biggs, Oregon where her father had numerous business ventures. Spent time roaming the area with her brother Bliss, two years her junior.

Eventually the family moved to Wasco, Oregon and she finished her schooling there. She met and married Perry Edward Wells on January 1, 1906 in the new home that her father had built after he purchased orchard land in the Pine Grove Districk of the Hood River Valley.

Nellie was a shy quiet person, preferring home where she had wonderful vegetable and flower gardens, than a social life. She spent many hours in her gardens, putting the rewards of harvest away for winter. She was a very talented oil painter, and enjoyed working at her painting and other hobbies she had.

She was a loving, devoted wife and mother, enjoying having her family around her.

She was a member of the Pine Grove Methodist Church, The Pine Grove Grange.

Siblings:

Bliss Lucius Clark
William Berrian Clark
Florence Lillian Clark
Mary Gladys Sylvia Clark
