The fifth child of David Daniel and Mariah Dandridge Hobbs , Thomas Oliver Bridgforth was born on September 9th 1826 in Giles County, TN. He died on January 24, 1910 in DeSoto County, MS and is buried in the Nesbit Cemetery , Pleasant Hill, DeSoto Co., MS. He married (1) Caroline J. Gray on June 16, 1852 in DeSoto County, Mississippi. Born in Alabama in 1833, she was the daughter of William and Jane Byrd Gray. Caroline who died in 1857 in DeSoto Co. MS, was the mother of David (1853) and William Byrd (1855) Bridgforth. Thomas Oliver married (2) Eleanor Maxwell (1827-1865), born in Alabama, she was the daughter of David and Margaret Maxwell. their children were: John A. , Margaret, Elizabeth and Thomas Oliver Bridgforth ,Jr. Thomas Oliver Bridgforth married (3) Caroline Karr Murray, daughter of James K. Murrah and Sarah Ann Maples . Caroline was born September 28, 1834 and died May 31,1989. She is buried in the new section of New Garden Cemetery. Children of Thomas Oliver Bridgforth and Caroline Murrah are: Mariah B, James, Ella, and Mary. In 1877, Thomas Oliver Bridgforth Sr. bought the brick ante-bellum home built by the slaves of James Grigsby in 1830 at New Garden for use as a summer home. He had become a wealthy cotton planter in DeSoto Co., MS., but wished to maintain contact with his many relatives in the New Garden area. Thomas Oliver Bridgforth was a Confederate veteran, serving in Co. D, Blythe’s Mississippi Battalion.
