Dad was a Florida DOT Engineer. The first home Dad and Mom bought is located here. Uncle Fay and Aunt Edna built it in 1951, and then Mom and Dad bought it from them in 1961.

In 1968, Dad and Mom decided to move to 508 Boger Blvd, Lakeland, FL here.
In April, 1970, Dad was transferred to Tallahassee, and Dad and Mom moved to 2926 Abbottsford Way, Tallahassee, FL. It is located here. A bit of history on this house: Dad, Mom, Jim and Mary left St Petersburg, FL in April, 1970. At that time, Dad spoke with the neighborhood builder, Marvin Johnson, and Mr Johnson started building their house in April, 1970, and had it finished by May, 1970. During this time, Dad, Mom, Jim and Mary stayed at the Tallassee Motor Lodge (across the street from Lake Ella). Their house was brand new - when Dad, Mom, Jim and Mary moved into it in May, 1970.

During Dad's teen years (at 14 years of age), he was an active boy scout in the Decatur Boy Scout Troop 16. On Sunday, March 13, 1949, the following article appears in the Decatur Herald: "Troop 16 Observes Anniversary Tuesday - Boy Scout Troop 16 will celebrate its first year under the sponsorship of the Trueblood Memorial church in a potluck dinner and charter presentation at 6:30 pm Tuesday in the church. LW Erickson will be the main speaker, Robert Meadows, neighborhood commissioner, will present the charter. Donald L Trimmer is Scoutmaster of the troop which has been active 22 years. David Kirk, Henri Eugene Cowger, W.C. Parker and Robert Spinner are in charge of the dinner. About 185 patrons are expected to attend."
Over the course of the next year, the two young sons (Chris and Jim) from each of these families became best friends. Within 6 months, Jim's Dad met Chris' Mom, and the two were married December 9, 1972. 2926 Abbotsford Way was too small for both of the families, so Dad, Jim and Mary moved in with Sue and Chris here after Dad and Sue were married on December 9, 1972. Over the next year, they decided that house wasn't big enough for them, so they moved here in November, 1973. In 1979, all the kids dispersed: Mary went to South Carolina, Jim went to California and Chris ended up in Southern Florida.
In August, 2001, Dad acquired Hogkin's disease.
After numerous Chemotherapy treatments, the disease went into remission August, 2003.
On the upper right, there are two pictures of Dad, taken with the Hansen brothers (Mom's mother was a Hansen) - when he went to the Milliken 50 Year Family Reunion - for the short time the disease was in remission (August, 2003 - September, 2003). He is the 3rd from the left in the top picture, and on the left - in the picture below.
In October, 2003, the disease reappeared. According to our Family attorney, Louie Adcock, during one of the Chemotherapy treatments, and Dad's complications got worse from the Chemotherapy treatments. He didn't make it through - when the Hodgkin's disease appeared the 2nd time.
On February 29, 2004, Dad passed away from "Interstitial Pneumonitis."

He was a member of Pisgah United Methodist Church.
Other survivors include three children: Command Sgt. Maj. James Christian Faris (and wife Alisia), U.S. Army, Fayetteville, N.C.; Jim Henri, Los Angeles, CA; Mary Abney Moore, Aiken, SC; and, four grandchildren - Lauren Brittany Hughes-Faris, Alexandria Paige Faris, Brooks Abney and Dulin Abney.

DECATUR - Henri Eugene "Gene" Cowger, 73, Tallahasse, FL, formerly of Decatur, died Feb 29, 2004.
Services were in Tallahassee. Burial was in Roselawn Cemetery, Tallahassee.
Gene was born Oct 20, 1930, in Decatur, the son of Carroll Cowger and Eloise Hansen-Cowger. He graduated from Decatur High School in 1948. He earned a degree in Civil Engineering. He retired as a state construction engineer.
Surviving are his wife, Sue; sons, Sgt. Maj. James Faris of Fayetteville, N.C.; James Cowger; daughter, Mary Cowger; two grandchildren; cousins, Allen Hansen of Decatur; Donald Hansen of Conway, Ark; James Hansen of Pacific Grove, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; cousins William Hansen and Marvin Hansen.

Dad's new wife, Sue, had him cremated. The only thing left is a plaque (to the right) of him at the Roselawn Cemetery. Dad needs to be moved with his parents, Carroll and Eloise, in Graceland Cemetery in Decatur, IL. He has no relation to Charles Faris.
