They originally lived in Decatur, IL - and moved to St Pete, FL.
In 1986, they decided to move to Tallahassee, FL, to be with their son.
Their grandson and granddaughter, Jim and Mary had been in Tallahassee until 1979. They used to go visit them in St Pete.
The picture, to the right, of Carroll when he was 6 months old, shows that he was the son of a William W Cowger. This may be William Wesley Cowger.
Carroll Cowger's Obituary:
Carroll E Cowger, 88, of Tallahassee, Fla., formerly of Decatur, died April 18, 1993.
Graveside services will be held at 2 pm Monday in Graceland Cemetery.
Mr Cowger, a native of Decatur, moved to St Petersburg, FL in 1950, and was a resident of Tallahassee for the past 7 years. He was employed by A.W. Cash Company in Decatur and retired from the Florida Department of Transportation in 1970. He was a member of Layfayette Presbyterian Church in Tallahassee.
Surviving are his wife, Eloise Hansen Cowger; son, H Eugene Cowger, both of Tallahassee. Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
I have posted a picture of Grandpa when he was 6 months old. The picture from the Decatur Herald, June 22, 1905, states, "Son of Mr and Mrs William Cowger, aged 6 months."
In the Decatur, IL Daily Review, on March 30, 1910, it reads, "Wilson Cowger has been appointed guardian of Carroll Eugene Cowger, and has filed his bond in the sum of $600." The Decatur Herald, April 30, 1910, shows, "Henry Wilson Cowger, guardian for Carroll E Cowger, filed his inventory with Judge Smith, Friday, and was approved." So, on April 30, 1910, Carroll E Cowger was adopted by Henry Wilson Cowger (from William W Cowger), and this was approved.
