Born to Charles A. and Nancy Anna Martin Hammer, Verlin married Fern Houchens on Dec. 21, 1935, in Peoria. She survives.

Also surviving are one son, Lawrence C.; three daughters, Mrs. George (Barbara) Roach, Mrs. Fred (Patricia) Etherton and Mrs. Don (Nancy) Pease; one sister, Letha Haungs; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Three brothers and three sisters preceded him in death.

He was a World War II Navy veteran.

He was an electrician for J. Hulick Electric Co., retiring in 1981. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
