Mrs. Mary Adelaid Ball was born in Barry County, this state, in 1844 and came to this county with her parents at the age of nine years. They settled on the homestead in Union Township where her life has been spent. She was the daughter of John Q. A. Johnson and Margaret Johnson. In 1869 she was married to Thomas B. Ball who departed this life September 17, 1896. Mrs. Ball leaves to mourn her unexpected departure: Carrie H. who sailed June 15 for China, Clarence who resides here, Robert P. of Woodland, California, Bert W. of Wheatland, California, Edward D. of Detroit, Michigan besides many grandchildren and friends, who will miss the kind words and acts of an ever-ready hand to make others comfortable.
Mrs. Ball was apparently well until Friday. When Mrs. Ball had retired her son, Clarence, heard a strange sound and on going to his mother's room found her unconscious, from which state she did not recover, the end coming on June 23rd, at eleven in the morning.
The funeral was held Wednesday at 2 P.M., the Methodist minister from Winn, Michigan officiating and was attended largely by friends and relatives. Mrs. Ball was laid beside her husband in Riverside Cemetery.
