Glenn was born the son of James & Maude Ida Thomas Card on October 8, 1917 near Mason City, Iowa. In 1936 his family moved to a farm near New Hartford and Glenn stayed in Mason City working for room and board until his graduation from high school that same year. In 1947 they moved to Shell Rock and Glenn began working for Harl Jamison in his hardware store until 1950. He then worked for IPS, Schield Bantam and Oliver Corporation. In 1955 he began his career at Viking Pump in Cedar Falls as a machinist, retiring in January of 1983.

As his family was growing up practically all activities were centered on his family. He was a Cub Scout Master and later an Assistant Boy Scout Master. Summers were spent boating, water skiing & fishing. Glenn & Dorothy enjoyed ballroom dancing at the Moose Lodge in Mason City and the Riviera in Janesville and in 1958 the couple began square dancing and were active members for many years.
