Herbert Eugene “Fidge” Pitts, 83, of 33 E. Main St., died Thursday, March 11, 2004 at Magnolia Manor in Spartanburg.

A native of Laurens County, he was a son of the late Dunklin and Agnes Wood Pitts.

He worked in construction and was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include Elsie M. Pitts, his former wife; a daughter, Terrie Smith of Spartanburg; a son, Christopher R. Pitts of Ware Shoals; a stepson, Tony McLennan of Spartanburg; two brothers, Thelton Pitts, Richard Pitts, both of Spartanburg; a sister, Joyce Maccione of Atlanta; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services are 3 p.m. Sunday at Ware Shoals Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Marcus Bishop.
