Sarah Reitz was born in Beaver Township, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Godfrey Reitz and Catharine Reitz (nee Thomas) . She had the following siblings: Peter David (1843-1917); Lydia (1844-1908) married Adam Fike; Catherine (1846-1910 married 1st John Jacob Bachtel 2nd William McKinstry Reed; Michael (1849-c1880); Mary (1851-1939) married John I. Barr; Samuel (1853-1921); Elizabeth (1855-1912) married Joseph/Joel Himes; Lavina Margaret (1857-1920) married Gerson Doney Jr.; Barbara (1859-1934) married Matthew Cochran; Franklin "Frank" Godfrey (1862-1918); Ellen Lucinda (1864-c1892) married Amos Foust.

On January 14, 1866, she married Israel Osman in Jefferson County, Pennsylvania. According to her husband's Civil War Pension papers, she was entirely blind. (It is unknown if she was blind her entire life.)

According to her Clearfield County, Pennsylvania, death record/certificate, she was buried November 11, 1900, Mims Cemetery, now known as Greenwood Cemetery, Sandy Township, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania.

A headstone was never found.
